Riiip with Brody the Kid #23 Topps Project 70, Within the Game, Panini Prizm and More!
Hey everyone! Welcome to another edition of Riiip with Brody the Kid!! Let’s get to it!
2021 Topps Opening Day has been released and this is an awesome product for kids!! Opening Day has some very cool inserts including Mascot Cards!! You can even get Mascot relics and autos!! Those are always really cool. You can get packs of Opening Day at your LCS or at Walmart or Target for cheap! Great job with this one, Topps!
Also, 2021 Topps Heritage Baseball has come out! Celebrating the 1972 design, this is a very fun throwback product that is on the cheaper side. You can get 1 auto or relic per Hobby Box and there is some crazy autograph potential!! You should also be able to find Heritage at your local Target or Walmart.
Now, I wanted to talk a little about Topps Project 70 which started recently. There are 51 artists for the project and each artist will be producing 20 cards. Each artist is taking cards from the 70 years of Topps baseball cards and redesigning them to be their own. Some of my favorites so far in the first couple rounds of releases have been Blake Jamieson’s 1959 Andrew McCutcheon, Lauren Taylor’s 1969 Lou Gehrig, DJ Skee’s 1965 Satchel Paige, and Alex Pardee’s 1990 Mike Trout. This is a small list because there have been a ton of amazing ones, and they are just getting to the end of each artists’ second release. It has been very fun to see all the different styles of art and I cannot wait to see the rest!!
Also, speaking of art, have you guys seen the series from Topps called The Game Within The Game? Also available only on topps.com, these cards are really awesome, showing a portrait of the player with an action shot included. The latest which is available on the website right now is of Roberto Clemente, and it is very awesome. The creator and painter of the series is Paul Jennis, who is very talented and does amazing work on the series. I actually had the chance to interview Paul on my web show, Hobby Life, and it was a lot of fun to hear about his story and how he creates the cards. Finally, the baseball season is starting! I am so excited for the MLB season and here are my top ten teams and players to watch for that I will be looking to buy up some cards of going into this year!
- Chicago White Sox – OK, they are my favorite team, but I am excited for this year and my pick would have been Eloy Jimenez if he did not get injured, so I will be looking to grab as many Luis Robert cards as I can.
- Los Angeles Dodgers – Walker Buehler
- Tampa Bay Rays – Randy Arozarena
- New York Mets – Jeff McNeil
- San Diego Padres – Trent Grisham
- Atlanta Braves – Cristian Pache
- Minnesota Twins – Luis Arraez
- Oakland A’s – Jesus Luzardo
- Toronto Blue Jays – Alejandro Kirk and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr.
- Louis Cardinals – Tommy Edman

Let’s talk a little bit about Panini! Prizm Basketball is dropping this week and wow! These cards are very awesome and there are some new cool inserts, including a throwback to the first year of Prizm! Also, Select football has dropped, and these cards are really cool and there are the XRC redemptions. These will be a huge chase because you could get a Trevor Lawrence!
